STARKWEATHER AND THE SHERIFF

Lincoln Sheriff Karnopp cuffs Charlie Starkweather for the drive from Douglas Wyoming to Lincoln Nebraska after his capture. The many images of Karnopp and Charlie with cigarettes drooping from their mouths would become popular fare in the papers and on TV. Charlie is still wearing his black leather jacket and beloved white cowboy boots with blue butterflies stitched on the toes. Both Charlie and Caril refused to fly to Lincoln on the national guard plane. The press loved Karnopp's description of Charlie as "cool as a cucumber" on the drive to Lincoln.
